Student athletics are an important part of the school experience, but safety must always come first. School sports help build discipline, teamwork, leadership, and physical health. Without strong safety standards, students face preventable injuries. Decades of experience coaching Tae Kwon Do and soccer have shown me both the benefits and the risks of youth sports.
Sports Safety Ensures Life-Long Value
Athletics build discipline, teamwork, leadership, and physical health—but only when programs are safe. That requires:
- Proper equipment that meets modern safety standards
- Well‑maintained facilities
- Qualified coaches trained in safety and injury prevention
- Strong concussion protocols
- Medical readiness at practices and games
I’m Committed
As co‑founder of a youth fitness education organization, I’ve been deeply involved in advancing youth sports safety. Much of today’s concussion awareness and medical‑readiness standards grew from national discussions—including a Harvard Medical School forum I was fortunate to participate in.
I remain active in sports and fitness, and understand the lifelong value of staying healthy and injury‑free. I fully understand that youth athletics must never harm. Every student deserves a safe environment to learn, compete, and grow.
As your next Assembly representative, I will work to strengthen safety standards, support funding for updated equipment and facilities, and ensure that all schools—regardless of zip code—can protect their student‑athletes.
