New York State Democrats continue down the path of encroaching on our Second Amendment rights. Proposed legislation imposes additional layers of restrictions on lawful gun ownership. These are a few of the bills making their way through the Assembly and into the Senate. If passed, they will go to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law.

Proposed Bills currently being considered:
S.399 — Pistol Converters
Creates a Class D felony for manufacturing machine guns, pistol converters, assault weapons, large‑capacity magazines, or disguised guns.
S.362 — 10‑Day Waiting Period
Firearm transfers allowed only after:
10 days from the initiation of the NICS check
Completion of all background checks
Violation is a Class A misdemeanor.
A.360 — Added Requirements for Long Guns
Shotgun and rifle buyers must have a hunting license.
All firearm buyers must complete:
- A 5‑hour safety course and exam
- A shooting test (90% minimum)
- A drug test and mental‑health evaluation
- Proof of safe storage
- A background check
S.4277 — .50‑Caliber Ban
Prohibits certain .50‑caliber firearms.
State Police will reimburse lawful owners who surrender them.
S.5974 — Liability Insurance
Requires firearm owners to carry $1 million in liability insurance.
