New York State is stumbling over its own climate‑policy commitments. As our governor attempts an election‑year backpedal, the administration is now being forced by a lawsuit to implement the very laws they have been trying to slow down.
In a recent memo, the administration acknowledged that the current plan to meet previously established emissions targets would place a heavy economic burden on New Yorkers.
The plaintiffs behind the lawsuit are large, well‑funded environmental organizations that have amassed hundreds of millions of dollars to advance policies that many now view as impractical – policies they profit from and that are driving energy costs higher.
Groups such as the Sierra Club and Earthjustice are plaintiffs and active political contributors to many state representatives. Recently, 17 Democratic state legislators stated that they were aware the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) would significantly increase energy and housing costs, yet they supported it anyway.
At a time when household energy bills are becoming unsustainable for many families, these groups are using the courts to push New York further down a path that many believe will worsen affordability and strain working people.
Our district needs representation that stands up for residents – not another business‑as‑usual “placeholder” in Albany. We need someone who understands what is happening and has the courage to vote against policies that are harming our communities.
In the June primary and the November general election, you will have a choice in who represents the 119th District in the New York State Assembly. I want to be that choice. I work for you!
