The Proposed NYS Budget Does Nothing to Eliminate Medicaid Abuse

New York State’s proposed budget now stands at $270 billion—an increase of $115 billion compared to a decade ago. Of this total, Medicaid accounts for approximately $120 billion. According to the Empire Center’s Medicaid Missing Million report, roughly 5.5 million New Yorkers qualify for Medicaid, yet 8.5 million are receiving some form of benefit. Within this 3 million‑person discrepancy, more than 1 million recipients cannot be accounted for.

If the average Medicaid cost for each of these discrepant medicaid beneficiaries  were $10,000, the potential waste could reach $30 billion—more than enough to offset the federal subsidy reductions facing New York State. Despite this, the Democrats’ proposed One‑House Budget fails to address any of these concerns.

The 119th District deserves a representative who understands the magnitude of this issue and is committed to working with colleagues in the Legislature to reverse years of waste, fraud, and abuse within New York’s Medicaid system. Elect me, Dan Fusco, in June as your Republican candidate, and I will stand ready to challenge the Democratic nominee and deliver a victory in November for all people of the 119th District of the NYS Assembly.

Dan Fusco is running to deliver practical, affordable solutions that put people first. His campaign is rooted in community, fiscal responsibility, and a belief that the government should work for everyday New Yorkers, not against them.
